Aayat-e-Kareemah

QUESTION:

I would like to know the authenticity of reciting Aayat-e-Kareemah 125 000 times for any difficulties or grievances. Is this established from the Sunnah or from the pious predecessors?

ANSWER: 

Reciting Aayat-e-Kareemah is very effective at the time of hardship and difficulties. When Sayyiduna Yunus Alahis Salaam was in the belly of the fish under three layers of darkness, he recited the Aayat-e-Kareemah and was blessed with salvation. Allah Ta’ala mentions in the Quraan Majeed that in the same manner, He will also grant salvation to the Believers. Hence, we understand that this is a very effective prescription and solution for every trial, grief and problem which one faces in his/her life.

Now, coming to the queried scenario, reciting Aayat-e-Kareemah 125 000 times is the practice of some of our pious predecessors. However, it is not established from any Hadith. It is permissible to recite it 125 000 times without considering it to be Sunnah, or compulsory, to recite it that amount of times.

 وَذَا النُّونِ إِذ ذَّهَبَ مُغَاضِبًا فَظَنَّ أَن لَّن نَّقْدِرَ عَلَيْهِ فَنَادَىٰ فِي الظُّلُمَاتِ أَن لَّا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا أَنتَ سُبْحَانَكَ إِنِّي كُنتُ مِنَ الظَّالِمِينَ فَاسْتَجَبْنَا لَهُ وَنَجَّيْنَاهُ مِنَ الْغَمِّ ۚ وَكَذَٰلِكَ نُنجِي الْمُؤْمِنِينَ

(الأنبياء: 87-86)

عن سعد بن أبي وقاص قال: قال رسول الله ﷺ: دعوة ذي النون إذ دعا وهو في بطن الحوت ﴿لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ سُبْحَانَكَ إِنِّي كُنْتُ مِنَ الظَّالِمِينَ (٨٧)﴾ فإنه لم يدع بها رجل مسلم في شيء قط إلا استجاب الله له (الترمذي # 3505)
