Athari Aqeedah

QUESTION:-

Could Mufti Sahib please provideٍ more information on the Athari Aqeedah?

ANSWER:-

We don’t have much information about the Athari Aqeedah. However, we understand that these people act upon the apparent meaning of the Quraan and Hadith. They stem from the Salafi movement and uphold the Athari works of Ibn Taymiyyah. There is always a fear of misinterpreting the verses of the Quraan Sharif and Hadith Sharif if one interprets according to his own understanding. Hence, acting upon the apparent meaning of the Quraan Sharif and Hadith Sharif could be dangerous. Even the Sahaabah requested the Tafseer and explanation of the Quraan Sharif from Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam on various occasions, despite being masters of the Arabic language. We, therefore, do not approve of the said Aqeedah.
