QUESTION:
1. Which Surahs and Dhikr should we recite after each Salaah?
2. Which Surahs and Dhikr are Sunnah to recite daily?
ANSWER:
The Duas and Adkhaar that we recite after our five daily Salaah, or at any other time, serve as nourishment to our souls as well as protection from Nafs and Shaytaan.
1a. It is recorded in a narration of Thawbaan Radiallahu Anhu, “When Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam would complete his Salaah then he would seek forgiveness thrice (by reciting ‘Astaghfirullah’ and then recite the following Dua:
اَلّٰلهُمَّ أنْتَ السَّلاَمُ وَمِنْكَ السَّلاَمُ تَبَارَكْتَ يَا ذَا اْلجَلاَلِ وَاْلإكْرَامِ
b. It is recorded in a narration of Ahmad, Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah that Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam advised Hadrat Muaaz Radiallahu Anhu saying, “Do not omit the recitation of the following after every Salaah:
اَللَّهُمَّ أَعِنِّي عَلَى ذِكْرِكَ وَشُكْرِكَ وَحُسْنِ عِبَادَتِكَ
c. Hadrat Abu Umaamah Radiallahu Anhu narrates that Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam is reported to have said, “Whoever recites Aayatul Kursi after every Fardh Salaah then nothing prevents him from entering Jannah except death.” [Nasa’i]
d. Hadrat Abu Hurairah Radiallahu Anhu narrates that Rasuulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam is reported to have said, “Whoever recites Subhanallah 33 times, Alhamdulillah 33 times, Allahu Akbar 33 times and then recites,
لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ، وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ، لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ، وَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ
Allah Ta’ala will forgive his sins even though it may equivalent to the foam of the ocean.”

b. Also, you should recite Surah Yaseen every morning and Surah Sajdah, Surah Waaqi’ah and Surah Mulk every evening.
عن عائشة – رضي الله عنها – أن النبي – صلى الله عليه وسلم – كان إذا فرغ من الصلاة لا يمكث في مكانه إلا مقدار أن يقول: اللهم أنت السلام ومنك السلام تباركت يا ذا الجلال والإكرام.
عن ثوبان رضي الله عنه قال: “كان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم إذا انصرف من صلاته استغفر ثلاثا وقال اللهم أنت السلام ومنك السلام تباركت يا ذا الجلال والإكرام”، قيل للأوزاعي وهو أحد رواة الحديث: “كيف الاستغفار؟، قال: يقول أستغفر الله” (مسلم)
عن معاذ بن جبل رضي الله عنه أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قال له “أوصيك يا معاذ لا تدعن دبر كل صلاة أن تقول: اللهم أعني على ذكرك وشكرك وحسن عبادتك”. رواه أحمد وأبو داود والنسائي بسند قوي.
وَعَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ رضى الله عنه - قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اَللَّهِ - صلى الله عليه وسلم مَنْ قَرَأَ آيَةَ اَلْكُرْسِيِّ دُبُرَ كُلِّ صَلَاةٍ مَكْتُوبَةٍ لَمْ يَمْنَعْهُ مِنْ دُخُولِ اَلْجَنَّةِ إِلَّا اَلْمَوْتُ (رواه النسائي)
وَعَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ – صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ -: ” «مَنْ سَبَّحَ اللَّهَ فِي دُبُرِ كُلِّ صَلَاةٍ ثَلَاثًا وَثَلَاثِينَ، وَحَمِدَ اللَّهَ ثَلَاثًا وَثَلَاثِينَ، وَكَبَّرَ اللَّهَ ثَلَاثًا وَثَلَاثِينَ، فَيَبْلُغُ تِسْعًا وَتِسْعِينَ ثُمَّ قَالَ تَمَامَ الْمِائَةِ: لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ، وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ، لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ، وَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ، غَفَرَ لَهُ خَطَايَاهُ وَإِنْ كَانَتْ مِثْلَ زَبَدِ الْبَحْرِ» “. (مجمع الزوائد)
