Direction of Qiblah

QUESTION:

After having performed Salaah, I later came to learn that the direction of the Qiblah was slightly slanted towards the right. Is my Salaah valid or should I repeat it?

ANSWER:

Fuqaha have written that if one is performing Salaah in front of the Ka’bah Sharif, then one should face the actual Ka’bah itself. If one is performing Salaah elsewhere, then one should perform Salaah towards the direction of the Ka’bah.

Allamah Yusuf Binnori (Rahimahullah) writes in Ma’rifus Sunan that, if the direction one faces towards is within 45 degrees of the direction of the Ka’bah Sharif, then the Salaah will be valid. If it is more than 45 degrees, then the Salaah will be invalid and will have to be repeated.

ثم إنه قدر تلك السعة في الجهة بقدر ربع الدائرة . وصرحوا بفساد صلاة من خرج عن مقدار الربع ، وإذن يتحمل الإنحراف في الجهة عن الكعبة نفسها نحو خمس وأربعين درجة كما حققه الغزالى وغيره من المحققين (معارف السنن 3/377)

فيعلم منه أنه لو انحرف عن العين انحرافا لا تزول منه المقابلة بالكلية جاز، ويؤيده ما قال في الظهيرية: إذا تيامن أوتياسر تجوز لأن وجه الإنسان مقوس لأن عند التيامن أو التياسر يكون أحد جوانبه إلى القبلة اهـ كلام الدرر (الدر المختار و حاشية ابن عابدين 1/428)
