eBucks

Sep 4, 2025 | Banking/ Interest

If a person uses his virtual card via his Google Wallet App, FNB places the individual on a higher tier for the eBucks rewards program, allowing one to earn more eBucks.

My brother and I manage the expenses of our household. He pays for the utilities and the groceries. He insists on using his phone to pay, so that he earns more eBucks from FNB, claiming that he spends the eBucks on himself personally.

He has requested my sister to purchase the groceries using his virtual card in order to accumulate more eBucks. We are not in favour of supporting him in this venture.

Q1. Should my sister agree to adding his FNB card to her phone and using it to make payments so that he can accumulate eBucks?

A1. Your sister is not obliged to upload her card on his phone.

Q2. Would the groceries which we consume be contaminated in any way because of the eBucks he receives from purchasing the groceries?

A2. Our view regarding eBucks is that, those points that are acquired from the affiliated partners such as Engen etc., are permissible to use. Those points that are acquired directly from FNB are not permissible. Hence, if your brother procured groceries with the points accumulated from the affiliated partners, then there will be no contamination.
