Engaging in a Haraam relationship with the intention of marriage

QUESTION:

A person asks if they started off in a Haraam relationship with the intention to marry, does this remove all the Barakah? What can be done to avoid this?

ANSWER:

Yes, engaging in a Haraam relationship will destroy the Barakah. The disobedience of Allah Ta’ala draws the curses of Allah which destroys all blessings. If they had erred, then both parties should resort to Taubah and have the Nikah performed as soon as possible. Don’t engage in any conversations or Haraam activities thereafter until the Nikah is complete. Through the Barakah of Taubah there is hope that the marriage will be blessed Insha’Allah.
