QUESTION:

What is the ruling regarding Hadiyah of A’maal? Would we be allowed to send Hadiyah of A’maal to a Ghair Mahram to soften their hearts for a decision to be made regarding Deen?

ANSWER:

We understand by the words ‘Hadiyah of Amaal’ – doing some good action/s (Nafl) and passing the rewards over to individuals or the Ummah at large which could include the living as well as the deceased. The above practice is in order. It is recorded Dar-ul-Qutni that a Sahaabi asked Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam, “I would serve my parents when they were alive, how can I serve them after their demise?” Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam replied, “This is also regarding as serving your parents that together with your Salaah you perform Nafl Salaah for them and together with your fast you keep Nafl fast for them.”

(جمالين في شرح جلالين ج ٦ ص٢١٠)

However, there is no proof of passing over rewards to soften the heart of a Na-Mahram so that a favourable decision can be made in one’s favour.
