Hanafi following a Shafi’ee Imaam in Janaazah Salaah

Feb 8, 2022 | Janaazah

Question:-

I am a follower of the Hanafi Madhab and I live in Cape Town. How do I follow the Imaam in Salaatul Janazaah when the Imaam leading the Salaah is a follower of the Shafi’ee Madhab?

Answer:-

The Salaatul Janaazah in the Shafi’ee Madhab is very similar to the Salaatul Janaazah in the Hanafi Madhab in that, both have four Takbeers that are necessary to be recited. The only difference is that the Shafi’ees recite different Duas and Surah Fateha in their Janaazah Salaah in comparison to the Hanafis.

When we, as followers of the Hanafi Madhab, perform Salaatul Janaazah behind a Shafi’ee Imaam, then we should recite Thanaa after the first Takbeer, Durood after the second, the Dua of forgiveness for the deceased after the third, and make Salaam after the fourth, as taught to us according to the Hanafi school of thought.

In conclusion, just as we perform Salaatul Janaazah behind a Hanafi Imaam, we will perform Salaatul Janaazah in exactly the same manner behind a Shafi’ee Imaam.
