QUESTION:
Is it permissible to be a stallholder at fairs, flea markets, souks etc? What is the status of income earned from these places as a stall holder?
ANSWER:
There is no problem in hiring a stall at a flea market or souk and sell one’s Halaal products. However, if the organizers are hosting Haraam events or using the proceeds from the flea market or souk to promote anything impermissible, then one should refrain from hiring a stall as this will be indirectly assisting in the disobedience of Allah Ta’ala. However, the money earned from selling one’s Halaal products will be Halaal but one will be sinful for being part of a sinful event or contributing towards their impermissible projects with one’s rental.
