QUESTION:
Our Nazirah classes are upstairs now, and if we go downstairs for Namaz, that would create problems for Namazis. Would performing our own Jamaat upstairs be a solution, or should we stay upstairs and and join the downstairs Jamaat (while the downstairs hall will not be full)?
ANSWER:
We understand from your query that there are two floors to a hall. The bottom floor is used for Salaah, and the top floor is used for Maktab. We also understand that the hall is frequented for Salaah by congregants. We suggest that the students are taken to the bottom floor to perform Salaah with the main Jamaat. However, the teachers should stand with them until Salaah commences to ensure that they do not disturb other Musallis. When Salaah commences, then the teachers should join the Jamaat by standing in the Sufuf occupied by adults. In this way, the students will learn the importance of performing Salaah with the first Jamaat. Since this is a hall, there is no abhorrence in holding a second Jamaat but holding a second Jamaat in a Masjid is Makrooh as the importance of attending Salaah with the first Jamaat is undermined. People then come to the Masjid at their convenience and have their own Jamaat. In conclusion, the students should join the main Jamaat together with their teachers.
