“Honeymoons” in Islam

Question:-

I would like to know if a honeymoon is permissible? What is regarded as a honeymoon?
A couple got married and spent two days together. They then separated for the entire month of Ramadaan. Now, if they go for a week on holiday after Eid, will it be considered as a honeymoon?

Answer:-

“Honeymoon” refers to a holiday spent together by a newlywed couple. The word “honeymoon” itself is derived from the Scandinavian practice of drinking mead, or fermented honey, during the first month of the marriage (measured by one moon cycle), in order to improve the likelihood of conception. This is indeed a Kuffar custom that should never be followed. The Quraan Sharif states, “And do not incline towards those who do wrong for then the fire shall reach you, and you will not have any helpers against (the punishment) of Allah, and you will not be assisted (by anyone).” [Surah Hood, Verse 113]

By delaying a honeymoon for a month after Nikah does not change the reality of the matter, hence, it should be totally avoided. We, as Muslims, should avoid using the Kuffar resorts and hotels without necessity, as these are the dens of every vice and evil. By sleeping in those beds where adulterous relations have taken place, and eating in those utensils in which swine and wine was consumed, will definitely destroy the spirituality of a person. May Allah Ta’ala guide us all. Ameen!
