Hosting plays to educate the masses

Question:-

What is the Shari’ee position of hosting educational plays and thereby educating the masses through them.

Answer:-

Lies, mocking, belittling others or addressing them with inappropriate names are all prohibited in Shariah. [Re:- Verse 30 Surah Hajj / Verse 11 Surah Hujuraat.] We understand that the objective may be good as one intends educating the masses but there are alternate ways of imparting education that are permitted in Shariah whilst achieving similar results.

Although some of the current day scholars have granted some level of concession in hosting plays with the intent of imparting education, we at the Darul Ifta are of the opinion that one should rather impart Deeni knowledge and thereby educate the masses through dialogues or discourses, etc. In doing so, the desired results will be achieved and the procedure implemented in imparting education would be within the parameters of Shariah.
