Ibaadat for a period of 40 days not accepted
Question:-
I recently consumed something and later found out that it contained alcohol. My question is, will my Salaah, for 40 days, be accepted?
Answer:-
The Hadith states that whoever consumes wine or alcohol, then the Salaah of forty days will not be accepted from him. The period of forty days has been particularly mentioned as the item remains in the body for a period of forty days. However, this in no way means that a person should omit his Salaah for a period of forty days. The Salaah performed will be valid and will not have to be repeated. Hence, his Salaah not being accepted for a period of forty days means that he will not be rewarded for the Salaah performed in the forty day period as a punishment for drinking wine.
Notwithstanding the above, we understand from the manner in which your question has been posed, that you have consumed some item containing alcohol unknowingly. You haven’t intentionally consumed alcohol with the intention of attaining enjoyment. You should, therefore, sincerely repent to Allah Ta’ala for your error and there is hope that your error will be forgiven. However, you should ensure that you only purchase Halaal products in the future, as a morsel of Haraam is sufficient to spiritually destroy a person and deprive him of the rewards of Salaah, as well as other Ibaadaat, for a period of forty days.
عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو ، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : مَنْ شَرِبَ الْخَمْرَ فَسَكِرَ مِنْهَا لَمْ تُقْبَلْ لَهُ صَلاَةٌ أَرْبَعِينَ يَوْمًا ثُمَّ إِنْ شَرِبَ مِنْهَا حَتَّى يَسْكَرَ مِنْهَا لَمْ تُقْبَلْ لَهُ صَلاَةٌ أَرْبَعِينَ يَوْمًا ثُمَّ إِنْ شَرِبَهَا فَسَكِرَ مِنْهَا لَمْ تُقْبَلْ لَهُ صَلاَةٌ أَرْبَعِينَ يَوْمًا ثُمَّ إِنْ شَرِبَهَا الرَّابِعَةَ فَسَكِرَ مِنْهَا كَانَ حَقًّا عَلَى اللهِ أَنْ يُسْقِيَهُ مِنْ عَيْنِ الْخَبَالِ قِيلَ : وَمَا عَيْنُ الْخَبَالِ ؟ قَالَ : صَدِيدُ أَهْلِ النَّارِ. هَذَا حَدِيثٌ صَحِيحُ الإِسْنَادِ وَلَمْ يُخَرِّجَاهُ (مستدرك للحاكم ص145 ج4)
«مَنْ شَرِبَ الْخَمْرَ لَمْ تُقْبَلْ لَهُ صَلَاةُ أَرْبَعِينَ يَوْمًا» فَلَوْ أَنَّ رَجُلًا شَرِبَ الْخَمْرَ ثُمَّ جَاءَ يَسْتَفْتِي لَمْ يَجُزْ أَنْ يُقَالَ لَهُ دَعِ الصَّلَاةَ أَرْبَعِينَ يَوْمًا، فَإِنَّكَ إِنْ صَلَّيْتَ لَمْ تُقْبَلْ مِنْكَ، بَلْ قَدْ أَجْمَعُوا أَنَّ عَلَيْهِ أَنْ يُصَلِّيَ، وَأَنَّهُ إِذَا صَلَّى فَصَلَاتُهُ جَائِزَةٌ وَلَيْسَ لَهُ أَنْ يُعِيدَ صَلَاةَ أَرْبَعِينَ [ص:588] يَوْمًا، وَتَأَوَّلَ قَوْلَهُ: «لَا تُقْبَلُ لَهُ صَلَاةٌ» أَيْ لَا يُثَابَ عَلَى صَلَاتِهِ أَرْبَعِينَ يَوْمًا عُقُوبَةً لِشُرْبِهِ الْخَمْرَ (تعظيم قدر الصلاة لمحمد بن نصر المروزي)
وَهُوَ الْمُتَّخذ من الْعِنَب أم غَيره وَهُوَ الْمُتَّخذ من غَيره (لم تقبل لَهُ صَلَاة أَرْبَعِينَ يَوْمًا) خص الصَّلَاة لانها أفضل عبادات الْبدن والاربعين لَان الْخمر فِي جَوف الشَّارِب وعروقه تِلْكَ الْمدَّة (طب عَن السَّائِب بن يزِيد) واسناده حسن وَرَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيّ أَيْضا بِلَفْظ لم يرض الله عَنهُ أَرْبَعِينَ يَوْمًا (التيسير بشرح الجامع الصغير ص425 ج2)
