QUESTION:
If a person drowned and the body isn’t found for several days, do we continue searching, or should the Janaazah Salaah be performed?
ANSWER:
The Fuqaha have stated that for the validity of the Janaazah Salaah, it is necessary that the body of the deceased person, or most of the body, is present. In the absence of the body, Janaazah Salaah will not be valid.
وشرطها ستة اسلام الميت وطهارته و ستر العورة وحضور الميت وكونه أو أكثره أمام المصلي وكونه للقبلة وزاد أيضا سابعا وهو بلوغ الإمام (الدر المختار ص207 ج2)
