Knowledge of the Unseen

QUESTION:

If a person believes that a Nabi has knowledge of the five things which only Allah Ta’ala knows of, for example, “Ilmus Sa’ah” (Commencement of Qiyaamah), do they become Kaafir?

ANSWER:

In the Quraan Majeed Allah Ta’ala states:

إِنَّ اللَّهَ عِندَهُ عِلْمُ السَّاعَةِ وَيُنَزِّلُ الْغَيْثَ وَيَعْلَمُ مَا فِي الْأَرْحَامِ ۖ وَمَا تَدْرِي نَفْسٌ مَّاذَا تَكْسِبُ غَدًا ۖ وَمَا تَدْرِي نَفْسٌ بِأَيِّ أَرْضٍ تَمُوتُ ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَلِيمٌ خَبِيرٌ (لقمان آ34)

“Verily, Allah by Him (Alone) is the knowledge of the Hour, He sends down the rain, and Knows that which is in the wombs. No person knows what he will earn tomorrow, and no person knows in what land he will die. Verily, Allah is All-Knowing, All-Aware (of things).”

From the above Aayah, it is absolutely clear that only Allah Ta’ala has the knowledge of the above-mentioned aspects which include the knowledge of when Qiyaamah will take place.

If a person believes that a Nabi has the knowledge of when Qiyaamah will take place, then he will lose his Imaan, as he believes that the Nabi has knowledge of the unseen and future events. This quality is possessed by Allah Ta’ala alone.

یہ عقیدہ مشرکانہ ہے، جمیع جزئیات کا اللہ تعالیٰ کے سوا کسی کو علم نہیں ۔(فتاوی محموديہ 3/150)

بالجملة فالعلم بالغيب امر تفرد به سبحانه وتعالى ولهذا ذكر في الفتاوى ان قول القائل عندروية هالة القمراى دائرته يكون مطرا فادعى علم الغيب لابـعـلامتـه كـفـرو ذكر الحنفية تصريحا بالتكفير باعتقاد ان النبي صلى الله عليه وسـلـم يـعـلـم الـغـيـب لمعارضة قوله تعالى قل لا يعلم من في السموات والارض الغيب الا الله كذافى المسايرة انتهى ملخصا شرح فقه اكبر من تزوج بشهادة الله ورسوله يكفر لانه يظن ان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلّم يعلم الغيب انتهى.(شرح فقه اكبر ص 185)

Such a person should renew his Imaan and Nikaah.

ويؤمر بالتوبة والرجوع عن ذلك وبتجديد النكاح بينه وبين امرأته كذا في المحيط.(الفتاوى الهندية 2/283)
