Ladies raising funds for the Masjid

Oct 18, 2022 | Charity

Question:-

Some Masaajid opt to organize a “ladies only” Masjid fundraiser. They use this opportunity to put up stalls in the parking-lot of the Masjid where only ladies are allowed to attend. Each vendor will contribute to the Masjid.

Answer:-

The Quraan Sharif categorically commands females to remain within the confines of their homes and not emerge and display themselves, as was the practice of the former period of ignorance. Yes, if there is a need for them to leave their homes, then they are permitted to do so, such as leaving the house to purchase their basic needs and necessities in the absence of male Mahaarim.

In the aforementioned scenario, there is absolutely no need for females to emerge from their homes, as it is not the responsibility of the females to raise funds for the Masjid. This need should be fulfilled by the men of the community, or the trustees of the Masjid. Also, if messages are sent out via social media, then surely a number of people would be willing to contribute towards the upkeep of the Masjid.

If the females are really willing to assist in this regard, then in their homes they may prepare the food products that they intend selling, and hand them over to the men who may then sell them at the stalls. By adopting this procedure, again, the females would not be required to emerge from their homes. However, if the females insist that they want to host the event, then it is quite clear that their intention is not raising funds for the Masjid but entertainment and pleasure.

Also, these stalls are going to be located in the Masjid parking area at a stipulated time which will be known to all. It is obvious that men are going to be loitering around in the area either due to the event, or due to security reasons, traffic control, assisting with the setting up etc. Hence, it will inevitably result in becoming a mixed event or gathering. In conclusion, this is an event of Fitnah which should be totally avoided.
