QUESTION:
I have been approached by someone who wants to lease my property with the intention of opening a non-Halaal takeaway or fast food restaurant. If it is permissible, are there any aspects that would render it impermissible? For example, if part of the items on the menu includes pork, or if the establishment also sells alcohol.
ANSWER:
If the food outlet will be selling both Halaal and Haraam items but the income derived from the sale of Halaal items will be more than 51%, then it will be acceptable to lease one’s premises to the food outlet. However, if the income derived from the sale of Haraam items is more than 51%, then it will not be permissible to lease the premises to the food outlet.
