Transcribed from the Islaahi Majlis conducted on 03/11/2022
In our previous majlis, we discussed the Sunnats of Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam and that a person will only emulate the actions of Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam if he has love for Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam
Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said: “None of you can be a true believer until I am more beloved to him than his father, his children, and all of mankind.”
Love of Sahaabah for Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam
A pious Buzurg thought to himself that he had a lot of love for Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam. He had a dream in which he was mounted on a horse and cart, and he was in the company of Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam. There were also a few Sahaabah Radiallahu Anhum with them. On the journey, they happen to run into some danger. The Buzurg immediately thinks to himself how he could save Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam. The Sahaaba that were present jumped off the cart and placed themselves in front of the wheels of the cart and brought it to a stop. In this way, the life of Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam was saved. Only then did the buzrugh realized the intensity of the love that Sahaabah had for Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam and that his love can’t even come close to theirs.
The moments before the demise of Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam
When Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam was leaving this world, he was in his room with all his wives present. Hadrat Fatimah Radiallahu Anha, the beloved daughter of Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam, walked into the room. She sat by the side of her beloved father, Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam. Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam whispered something into her ears, and it made her weep. A little while later, he whispered something else to her and she laughed. Hadrat Aisha Radiallahu Anha desired to know what Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam had said, but Hadrat Fatimah Radiallahu Anha refused to disclose the secret of Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam.
After some time, Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam passed away. Hadrat Aisha Radiallahu Anha then approached Hadrat Fatimah Radiallahu Anha and said to her that due to her right over her i.e. she was her mother due to being married to Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam, Hadrat Fatimah should divulge what Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam had whispered to her. Hadrat Fatimah Radiallahu Anha replied that since Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam had passed away, she would tell Hadrat Aisha Radiallahu Anha what he said. Hadrat Fatimah said that the first time Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam whispered to her, he said that every year Jibraeel Alaihis Salaam would come to him, he would complete either one or two khatms of Quraan with him. This year, he completed two, which indicated that Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam was going to leave this world. On hearing this, out of her deep love for her father, she cried. On seeing her crying excessively, Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam asked her if she was pleased that she would be the leader of the women in Jannah. This made her smile. Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam also told her to fear Allah Ta’ala and exercise patience when he is to depart from this world. At the time of his demise, again Hadrat Fatimah was crying. Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said to her to recite
What should be recited on being afflicted with a calamity
Upon reading this, when one goes through difficulty, one will be rewarded. She then asked if they would receive a reward even upon losing Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam from this world. Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam replied in the affirmative that even on this calamity, they will be rewarded by reading
Hadrat Muaz bin Jabal Radiallahu Anhu was appointed as the governor of Yemen. On his departure from Madinah Shareef, he was mounted on his animal while Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam walked beside him for a small portion of his journey, giving him advice regarding the people of Yemen. When Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam concluded his Naseehat, he said: “O Muaz! When you return from Yemen, you will pass by my Masjid, you will pass by my Qabr.” On hearing this, Hadrat Muaz started crying uncontrollably due to his love for Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam. Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam turned and faced Madinah Munawwarah and said: “The person closest to me will be that person who has Taqwa, irrespective of who he is or where he comes from.” In another narration, it is mentioned: “O Muaz! Don’t cry as crying is from Shaytaan.”
This was the love they had for Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam, that they couldn’t contain themselves and broke down at the thought of losing him.
When the Battle of Uhud took place, a rumor spread that Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam had been martyred. A woman put her Pardah on and made her way to the battlefield. When she arrived there, she was told that her father was Shaheed. Then she was told her son was Shaheed, her brother was Shaheed, her husband was Shaheed. Despite this devastating news, she kept asking one question, “How is Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam?”. When she saw Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam she said, ” Every calamity that I have been through is nothing for me now that I have seen you O Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam.”
Adhaan of Bilaal Radiallahu Anhu
Hadrat Bilaal Radiallahu Anhu was unable to remain living in Madinah after the demise of Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam, so he moved to Jaamea. Hadrat Umar Radiallahu Anhu travelled to Jaamea and upon meeting the people there, they had a request for him. They asked, ” O Ameerul Mu’mineen! Please ask Hadrat Bilaal Radiallahu Anhu to call out the Adhaan.” Since Hadrat Bilaal had left Madinah Munawwarah, he had not called out the Adhaan. Hadrat Umar Radiallahu Anhu instructed Hadrat Bilaal to call out the Adhaan. The slave of Hadrat Umar, Hadrat Aslam recalled that when the Adhaan was called out, he did not see people crying in the manner he saw them crying on that day. The Adhaan took them back to the time of Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam.
Hadrat Bilaal Radiallahu Anhu also stayed in a place called Dhalia. Whilst living there, he saw Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam in a dream. In the dream, Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam says to Hadrat Bilaal that it has been so long since you had visited me in Madinah Munawwarah. The next morning, Hadrat Bilaal Radiallahu Anhu made his way to Madinah Sharif. He went to the Raudah Mubaarak and stood there. On one hand, he was heavy with grief and sorrow due to the separation from Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam. On the other hand, he was happy to be there in Madinah, in front of Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam. In that condition, Hadrat Hasan and Hadrat Hussain Radiallahu Anhuma came running towards him. Hadrat Bilaal Radiallahu Anhu was elated to see them and embraced them and kissed them. They requested Hadrat Bilaal Radiallahu Anhu to call out the Adhaan because much time had passed since he left Madinah Sharif.
Hadrat Bilaal Radiallahu Anhu obliged and stood on a raised platform to call out the Adhaan. At that moment, when the voice of Hadrat Bilaal echoed through the streets of Madinah Munawwarah, everyone came out of their homes crying, as it reminded them on Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam.
These incidents of the Sahaba Radiallahu Anhum show us the intense love they had for Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam and they couldn’t tolerate being separated from Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam.
Hadrat Abdullah Bin Umar Radiallahu Anhu used to visit the Mimbar where Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam used to sit. He would place his hands on the seat and then put his hands on his face.
Abdullah Bin Zubair drinks the Mubarak blood of Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam
Once Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam had cupping done. He told Hadrat Abdullah Bin Zubair Radiallahu Anhu to take the blood and dispose of it. On his way out, he passes Hadrat Salman Radiallahu Anhu, who sees Hadrat Abdullah drinking the blood. Hadrat Salman goes inside to Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam and a little while later, Hadrat Abdullah returned. Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam asked him if he had completed the task that was entrusted to him. Hadrat Abdullah replied that the work was completed. Hadrat Salman enquired from Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam what the work was. Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam replied that he had asked Hadrat Abdullah to dispose of the blood collected after cupping. Hadrat Salman Radiallahu Anhu exclaimed that he takes a Qasm that Hadrat Abdullah drank the blood. Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam asked Hadrat Abdullah Bin Zubair if this was true and he replied in the affirmative. Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam asked him why he did this. He replied that he wanted the blood of Allah’s Rasul Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam in his body as well. Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said: “For drinking my blood, two things will happen. One is, you will cause harm to a nation and a nation will cause harm to you as well….” This was in reference to the difference that arose between the King Abdul Malik Bin Marwaan. At the time, Hadrat Abdullah Bin Zubair was the governor of Makkah. Both parties caused harm to each other, and in the time of Hajjaj Bin Yusuf, he was made Shaheed.
The Hadith continues, “…The second thing is, that fire of Jahannam will never touch you, except that the promise of Allah Ta’ala that each person has to cross over the bridge of Siraat.” The journey over Siraat is 1500 years long, sharper than a blade and thinner than a strand of hair, with the fire of Jahannam underneath it. Each person has to pass over it in order to enter Jannah.
Licking the blood on the face of Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam
On the Battle of Uhud, Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam’s Mubaarak face was injured and full of blood. One Sahaabi came and started licking the blood. Someone tried to stop him saying that the blood is Haraam. The Sahaabi retorted saying that this was not ordinary blood, but the noble blood of Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam. Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam commented that the fire of Jahannam will not touch him now that he has licked this blood.
Whenever Hadrat Khalid Bin Waleed Radiallahu Anhu went to war, he was always victorious. It is mentioned that this was due to a few locks of hair of Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam that Hadrat Khalid Bin Waleed had kept in the front of his Topi that he wore when going into battle.
Hold firmly onto the Sunnats
May Allah Ta’ala grant us true love for Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam. For as long as this love is present, we will be treading the right path. The moment we veer off this path, there is only destruction upon destruction.
On a trip to Johannesburg, we heard of a youngster who was very intelligent in school and Madrassah. He was loved by both his school and Madrassah teachers. This young boy got involved in some interfaith dialogues and as a result, he lost his Imaan. His Janaazah left from a church and they cremated him. Such is the fragility of our condition, that if we just move a little away from Sunnah, our Imaan is at stake. May Allah Ta’ala protect us all, Aameen.
