Medication And Tawakkul
QUESTION:
My son suffers from a bad throat and hayfever. However, he refuses to take any medication including Tibb or homeopathic remedies, because he believes that we should trust in Allah Ta’ala alone. Please advise?
ANSWER:
We are in living in a world of cause and effect. As such, the teaching of Islam is that we should adopt the means and thereafter, put our trust and reliance in Allah Ta’ala. Adopting does not contradict Tawaakul (reliance in Allah Ta’ala). Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam himself took medication.
Therefore, your son should take the medication and Insha’Allah, Allah Ta’ala will put cure in it. Then he should rely upon Allah Ta’ala.
May Allah Ta’ala grant him and all the sick complete Shifaa with a speedy recovery, Aameen!
