Mocking people involved in difficulties
Question:-
I know I should be a good person. Sometimes, I think of a tribulation and want to joke about it, or I see someone going through some difficultly and smile. I then stop immediately. I then think that I should not make fun or joke around about tribulations, else I might get involved in the same tribulation. By thinking that the calamity can strike at me, do I lose my Imaan?
Answer:-
It is correct that one should not make a mockery of a person who is involved in a calamity. The Quraan Sharif categorically prohibits us from making mockery of others in the following verse, ‘O you who have Imaan! Men should not mock other men for perchance they (those mocked) may be better than them (those who mock.) [Surah Hujuraat, Verse 11]
Yes, it is possible that the calamity is removed from the one being tested and transferred onto us due to our mockery. Hence, such a thought is not Kufr but very possible.
Hadrat Aisha Radiallahu Anha narrates that an afflicted person passed by a group of women who laughed at him mockingly, and consequently some of them were afflicted. In conclusion, one should refrain from mocking or hurting others in any way.
