Obtaining Deeni Knowledge
QUESTION:
I have a desire to do the Aalimah course to increase my Deeni knowledge. Alhamdulillah, my entire family are Ulama, viz. my parents, siblings and their spouses.
My concern is that in many institutes nowadays there is a lot of bad influence. Even if the teachers are good, the influence of classmates is very strong, and there are many Fitnahs, parties, wastage etc. I fear it will affect my own Deen. I do not want to remain without knowledge, but I am unsure how to further my studies without going to an institute. Is there any way I can study privately? Are there any specific Kitaabs recommended for self-study?
ANSWER:
Our advice is:
1. Try to find a suitable institute close to your home where you can attend classes and return home in the evening so that you can benefit from the teachers and lessons whilst remaining at home with your family.
2. Be careful of the company you keep and try to remain in the company of those who encourage you towards Deen. Wherever one goes there will be different types of people and influences, so one should try to remain firm upon Deen and not allow the wrong company to affect one negatively.
Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said:
الْمَرْءُ عَلَى دِينِ خَلِيلِهِ فَلْيَنْظُرْ أَحَدُكُمْ مَنْ يُخَالِلُ
A person follows the religion of his close friend so each of you should consider whom he befriends
Sunan Abi Dawud Hadith 4833
3. If there are no suitable Madrassahs in the vicinity, then read Kitaabs of authentic Ulama, or request one of your family members to assist you.
ALLAH TA’ALA ALONE IN HIS INFINITE KNOWLEDGE KNOWS BEST!
