Performing Salaah on the Mataaf while the Imaam is in the shaded area

Aug 30, 2023 | Salaah

QUESTION:

I would like to know with regards to salaah read behind the Imaam in the Haram Shareef, as the Imaam is currently not on the Mataaf, and the Saff on the Mataaf is a complete circle. Is salaah performed in this way valid?

ANSWER:

It will be permissible to perform Salaah behind the Imaam in the Haram while the Imaam is standing in the shaded area, on condition that there is no one standing in front of the Imaam (on the Mataaf) in that direction.

Generally, the Imaams of the Haram lead the Salaah from the shaded area of the Haram between the Rukn-e-Yamani and Hajr-e-Aswad due to severe heat or large crowds. The area of Imaamat is directly beneath the room from which the Adhaan is called. If the Musallees are performing Salaah on the Mataaf in any of the remaining three directions, then their Salaah will be valid. However, performing Salaah on the Mataaf ahead of the Imaam will invalidate their Salaah, hence the area of the Mataaf ahead of the Imaam should be left vacant.
