QUESTION:
A person performs Salaah in the upstairs section of the Masjid alone or sometimes with one other person, then too, not standing shoulder to shoulder, separate from the main Jamaat downstairs in the Masjid. What is the ruling of such a Salaah?
ANSWER:
The Fuqaha have stated that it is Makrooh-e-Tahreemi to perform Salaah in a Saff whilst the Saff in front is not fully occupied. Similarly, the bottom floor of the Masjid should be occupied first. and then the top floor should be used to perform Salaah. Salaah performed on the top floor of the Masjid will be valid, but it is Makrooh to do so due to leaving the Sufuf of the bottom floor incomplete. The Hadith of Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam states, “The one who joins (the Saff), Allah Ta’ala will join him and the one who cuts (the Saff), then Allah Ta’ala will cut him.”
