Prescription To Remove Nadhar

QUESTION:

Is it permissible to take out Nadhar with salt while reading Aayaat of the Quraan Sharif?

ANSWER:

From the outset, it should be borne in mind that Nadhar (evil eye) is a reality. Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam is reported to have said:

العين تدخل الرجل القبر وتدخل الجمل القِدر
(كنز العمال)

“The eye (evil glance of one) will make a person enter the grave and will make a camel enter a pot.”

In a narration of Kanzul Ummal, Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam is reported to have said:

 العين حق يحضرها الشيطان وحسد ابن آدم
(كنز العمال)

“The eye is a reality in which Shaytaan and jealousy of man is present.”

Yet in another narration Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam states:

 العين حق ولو كان شيء سابق القدر سبقته العين
(كنز العمال)

“The evil eye is real, and if anything could precede destiny, it would be the evil eye.”

Our Ulama have prescribed many ways to seek protection from Nadhar with the permission of Allah Ta’ala:

1. The following Amal has been prescribed which is extremely beneficial for the protection of children. This Amal is also recorded in Ma’ariful Quraan on Page 539, Vol.8. The following verse should be recited 11 times:

  وَإِن يَكَادُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ لَيُزْلِقُونَكَ بِأَبْصَـٰرِهِمْ لَمَّا سَمِعُوا۟ ٱلذِّكْرَ وَيَقُولُونَ إِنَّهُۥ لَمَجْنُونٌۭ

وَمَا هُوَ إِلَّا ذِكْرٌۭ لِّلْعَـٰلَمِينَ  [الْقَلَمِ: 51-52]

2. The Dua that Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam read for the protection of his grandchildren is amongst the best Duas that one can recite for the protection of one’s own children and grandchildren. This is the same Dua that Nabi Ibrahim Alaihis Salaam would recite for his children, Hadrat Ismail and Hadrat Ishaq Alaihimus Salaam. The Dua is as follows:

 أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّةِ، مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْطَانٍ وَهَامَّةٍ، وَمِنْ كُلِّ عَيْنٍ لَامَّةٍ

  (سنن ابي داود)

3. The following Dua could also be recited thrice, every morning and evening:

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ عَلَى دِيْنِيْ وَنَفْسِي وَوَلَدِيْ وَأَهْلِي وَمَالِي (عمل اليوم والليلة)

“In the name of Allah (I seek protection) for my Deen, my life, my children, my family and my wealth.”

4. One should recite the Manzil daily which is extremely effective and serves as protection from Jinn, Jadu and the evil eye.

Now, coming to the queried scenario, the Fuqaha have approved of reciting verses of the Quraan Sharif or Surah Fatiha, and blowing on chillies or salt and thereby removing Nadhar. [Re:- Kitabun Nawaazil Pg. 325 Vol.16]. Furthermore, Fataawa Mahmoodiyyah states that it is permissible to remove Nadhar by reciting verses of the Quraan Sharif on chillies and thereafter, burning the chillies. However, one should not recite anything that is against Shariah, nor should one seek any form of assistance from idols, Jinn or Shaytaan. [Re: – Fataawa Mahmoodiyyah Pg. 331 Vol.28]

 وَفِيهَا لَا بَأْسَ بِوَضْعِ الْجَمَاجِمِ فِي الزَّرْعِ وَالْمَبْطَخَةِ لِدَفْعِ ضَرَرِ الْعَيْنِ، لِأَنَّ الْعَيْنَ حَقٌّ تُصِيبُ الْمَالَ، وَالْآدَمِيَّ وَالْحَيَوَانَ وَيَظْهَرُ أَثَرُهُ فِي ذَلِكَ عُرِفَ بِالْآثَارِ فَإِذَا نَظَرَ النَّاظِرُ إلَى الزَّرْعِ يَقَعُ نَظَرُهُ أَوَّلًا عَلَى الْجَمَاجِمِ، لِارْتِفَاعِهَا فَنَظَرُهُ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ إلَى الْحَرْثِ لَا يَضُرُّهُ رُوِيَ «أَنَّ امْرَأَةً جَاءَتْ إلَى النَّبِيِّ – صَلَّى اللَّهُ تَعَالَى عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ – وَقَالَتْ نَحْنُ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْحَرْثِ وَإِنَّا نَخَافُ عَلَيْهِ الْعَيْنَ فَأَمَرَ النَّبِيُّ – صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ – أَنْ يُجْعَلَ فِيهِ
