Purchasing goods on ‘white Friday’

Question:-

Are we allowed to buy anything on “White Friday” if there are goods on special?

Answer:-

By the term ‘White Friday’, we understand that you are referring to the day referred to as ‘Black Friday’ in the business world, when goods are generally sold at a discounted price. However, you are referring to it as ‘White Friday’ due to the honour of the day of Jumuah, which is indeed a sign of Taqwa in your heart as stated in Verse 32 of Surah Hajj, “Whoever honours the distinctive signs of Allah, then this is because of the Taqwa of hearts.”

Yes, it will be permissible to purchase items on this day even though they may be on sale at selected stores that may be promoting these items as a special for the day. However, one should keep in mind that one should only buy that which is necessary and not be extravagant.

Allah Ta’ala mentions in the Quraan Sharif,

كلوا واشربوا ولا تسرفوا انه لا يحب المسرفين

Eat drink and do not waste for verily Allah Ta’ala does not love those who are wasteful.

ركن البيع فهو مبادلة شيء مرغوب بشيء مرغوب وذلك قد يكون بالقول وقد يكون بالفعل (بدائع الصنائع ج٦ ص٥٢٩)

البيع ينعقد بالإيجاب والقبول إذا كانا بلفظ الماضي – البناية ج١٠ص٥
