Reading Asr Salaah In Shafi’ee Time

QUESTION:

Is a Hanafi permitted to read Asr in Shafi time when he is working? He works quite a distance from his home and cannot wait for Hanafi Asr or else he will miss Maghrib Salaah with Jamaah?

ANSWER:

A Hanafi should adhere to the Hanafi timings for Salaah. If one is in dire need to perform Asr according to the Shafi Asr time, for example, he is a Musaafir, or he is in a Shafi congregation, then his Asr Salaah at that time will be valid. Hence, in the queried scenario if one has the fear that he will miss his Asr Salaah, one can read in the Shafi Asr time. (RE:Fatawaa Darululoom Zakariyya Vol:2 Pg64)
