Stock Superseding Nisaab

Aug 19, 2025 | Zakaat

QUESTION:

An applicant has applied to a Zakaah organization for assistance. The applicant has borrowed a sum of R800 000 to someone and has requested him to pay it back. The debtor isn’t able to pay him back at the moment. The applicant has not written off the debt either. He also has stock worth R4 000 000 and debts amounting to R500 000. Does this still make the person eligible for Zakaah?

ANSWER:

The applicant in the query is not eligible for Zakaat, since his stocks are worth more than the Nisaab of Zakaat.
