The Sands Of Haramain Sharifain

QUESTION:

While on Ziyaarat to Mount Uhud, I filled a small bottle of sand/stone as a keepsake of this beautiful place. Was this permissible?

ANSWER:

If one brings some sand or stone of Makkah Mukarramah or Madinah Tayyibah back to one’s home with the intention of Tabarruk (deriving blessings), and one does not commit any type of Bid’ah (innovation) with it, then it will be permissible.

لا بأس بإخراج التراب والأحجار التي في الحرم وكذا قيل في تراب البيت المعظم إذا كان قدرا يسيرا للتبرك به بحيث لا تكون به عمارة المكان كذا في الظهيرية (الدر المختار و حاشية ابن عابدين 2/626)
