Verses for Shifa
QUESTION:
1. Please suggest a Dua, Wazifa or Amal for a person who will undergoing surgery, in the hope that all traces of illness will be eradicated. Should the Dua/Wazifa/Amal be read by the patient, or can somebody else read on his behalf?
2. Is there any truth in illnesses being a sign of evil-eye, Hasad or black magic? If yes, how do we overcome it?
ANSWER:
You should bear in mind that both health and illness are from Allah Ta’ala. We do not deny the reality of black magic and the evil eye. However, the Quraan Sharif states, “However, they can never harm anyone with it (black magic) without Allah’s command (permission).” In conclusion, one’s focus at this stage should be to treat the patient and turn to Allah beseeching Him to cure the patient and not being concerned about how the patient fell ill.
The Hadith states, “There are two bounties in regard to which people are in deception; good health and free time.” People generally think that they will perpetually enjoy good health whilst others will fall ill. No one ever thinks that he could lose his health, yet good health can be snatched away within seconds. In conclusion, we shouldn’t be negative and think that the illness was due to Nazr or Jadu rather we should accept it as the decree of Allah Ta’ala.
As a treatment, one should recite Surah Yaseen and blow into a jug of water. The water should be served to the patient regularly. This is extremely effective. One may also recite the verses of Shifa and blow on the ill or blow into water and give it to the patient to drink. We make Dua that Allah Ta’ala grants Shifa to all those that are ill. Ameen! The verses of Shifa are recorded below:
وَيَشْفِ صُدُورَ قَوْمٍۢ مُّؤْمِنِينَ
“And He will cure the breast of people who believe.”
وَشِفَآءٌۭ لِّمَا فِى ٱلصُّدُورِ
“And (the Quraan) is a cure for ailments which prevail in the hearts.”
يَخْرُجُ مِنۢ بُطُونِهَا شَرَابٌۭ مُّخْتَلِفٌ أَلْوَٰنُهُۥ فِيهِ شِفَآءٌۭ لِّلنَّاسِ ۗ
“There comes forth from their (the bees) bellies a drink (honey) diverse of colours, wherein is healing for mankind.”
وَنُنَزِّلُ مِنَ ٱلْقُرْءَانِ مَا هُوَ شِفَآءٌۭ وَرَحْمَةٌۭ لِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَ ۙ
“And We reveal of the Quraan that which is a source of healing and a source of mercy for the Believers.”
وَإِذَا مَرِضْتُ فَهُوَ يَشْفِينِ
“And when I am sick then He heals me.”
قُلْ هُوَ لِلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ هُدًۭى وَشِفَآءٌۭ ۖ
“For those who believe it (the Quraan) is a guidance and a healing.”
Significance: The above verses should be recited. Insha-Allah he will be cured even if the sickness is of a serious nature.
