Video Calls

QUESTION:

Considering that pictures of animate objects are Haraam, how does one teach children about the various creation of Allah Ta’ala, for example, the ant, or the whale? With regards to video calls, is that categorized as Haraam, since the image is not captured?

ANSWER:

Our Deen does not stop a person from learning about insects and animals. One should cover the head of the animals before showing and teaching the children.

Video calls of animate objects are impermissible whether it is recorded or not recorded.

عن مسروق عن عبد الله قال قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه و سلم إن من أشد الناس عذابا يوم القيامة المصورون وقال أحمد المصورين(صحيح البخاري# 5606)

Abdullah bin Mas’ood Radiallahu Anhu reports that Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said: “Those involved in picture making will be subjected to the worst forms of punishment on the Day of Qiyaamah.”
