Zakaah via Cash or EFT

QUESTION:

We are a small group that helps those in need during Ramadhaan. Previously, we used to collect cash to purchase hampers, informing the donors that any surplus funds will be utilized in other Zakaah projects. This year, we received funds via EFT as well as cash donations. How do we reconcile between the two forms of payment so that all donors are included in the reward of purchasing hampers?

ANSWER:

It is not necessary that the hampers are purchased solely with the funds received via cash payments. Once all the money is received via cash and EFT, you may purchase hampers and distribute it to the poor. Everyone’s Zakaat will be discharged and everyone will be rewarded for their Zakaat Insha’Allah.
