Zakaat on an estate property that was sold
Question:-
Is one required to pay Zakaat on funds accrued from a estate property that was sold and distributed amongst the heirs?
Answer:-
We understand from your query that a property belonging to a deceased’s estate was sold (with the consent of the heir’s), and you received your share of inheritance from the property at this stage. If your share of the inheritance received from the property is available when calculating your next yearly Zakaat, then you will be required to pay Zakaat on the amount. If the funds are spent before your next Zakaat date comes in, then there is no Zakaat on the funds. There is no Zakaat for the previous years.
