Not eligible for Zakaat due to inheritance funds

Question:-

My wife knows of a widow who recently lost her parents and has no source of income. There is an amount of inheritance that is due to her which is tied up and inaccessible. At the moment, she says that she does not possess the Nisaab and is liable for Zakaat. Is she liable for Zakaat due to her inheritance being tied up?

Answer:-

If the inheritance amount due to her, exceeds the Nisaab amount (which is approximately R7300.00), then she doesn’t qualify to receive Zakaat, even though she currently doesn’t possess Nisaab. She should take a loan at this stage and pay off the loan when she receives her portion of inheritance.
