Using medication to suppress Haidh

Nov 5, 2021 | Haidh And Nifaas

Question:

Is it permissible for a woman to use medication to suppress her menstrual bleeding during Hajj?

Answer:

If a doctor advises that the medication will prove not to be harmful, and one can bear the difficulty in taking the medication (if any), and one used similar medication previously, then it will be permissible for one to use such medication to suppress one’s menstrual bleeding during Hajj.

However, a woman should be prepared to take the risk of side-effects that could occur as a result of using such medication. For example, if it does not agree with a woman, it could throw her entire menstrual cycle into a haphazard mode that would then confuse her as to which of her days are menstruation and which are not.
