Dua for death in Madinah Sharif
Dua for Death in Madinah Sharif
Transcribed from the Islaahi Majlis conducted on 11/05/2023
On the completion of the month of Ramadaan, Allah Ta’ala bestows on us the months of Hajj i.e. Shawwal, Dhul Qa’dah and Dhul Hijjah. On the commencement of these months, Hadrat Sheikh Hadith Maulana Muhammad Zakariyya Sahib Rahimahullah would say, “O Allah! We have heard that at your threshold in Makkah Sharif, there will be a crowding of your lovers. O Allah! If You permit me, let me also be amongst the Hujjaaj,” (in reference to all those who have gathered to perform Hajj).
Hajj is a manifestation of one’s love for Allah Ta’ala. If we analyze the rites of Hajj, we will find one foregoes his clothing for Ihraam (which is simply two pieces of cloth), then he runs between the two hillocks, Safa and Marwa. From there he makes his way to Mina, and then Arafaat, standing under the hot sun while supplicating to Allah Ta’ala. He left the comfort of his home to sleep under the sky in Muzadalifah. Thereafter, he makes Qurbani for the pleasure of Allah Ta’ala and shaves his hair. Why does he carry out all these rituals? It is a manifestation of the love of Allah Ta’ala. And if we cannot physically be a part of the Hajj, our heart should in Makkah Sharif and all the blessed places which the Hujjaj will be visiting. Also, we should make Dua for the acceptance of their Hajj, and ask Allah Ta’ala to grant us a share in their reward.
There are many Ahaadeeth wherein Nabi Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam discussed the virtues of Livingston, and passing away, in Madinah Sharif. If a person has a fervent desire to pass away in Madinah Sharif, and he makes an effort towards it, there is a high probability of Allah Ta’ala accepting his Dua. Hadrat Umar Radiallahu Anhu lived in Madinah Sharif, and he would make the following Dua:
“O Allah! Grant me Shahaadah in your path, and let my death be in the (Mubaarak) city of Your beloved Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam.” The Sahaabah Radiallahu Anhum found this strange that Hadrat Umar Radiallahu Anhu was asking for death in Madinah Sharif. There seems to be contradiction between the two. To become Shaheed, one has to leave his home and go out in the Path of Allah Ta’ala. But Allah Ta’ala accepted this Dua and both his Duas were granted as he was sincere. Whilst Hadrat Umar Radiallahu Anhu was leading the Fajr Salaah in Masjidun Nabawi, a Kaafir, Abu Lu’lu, took out a dagger and stabbed him. Shortly thereafter, Hadrat Umar Radiallahu Anhu passed away as Shaheed in Madinah Munawwarah. He was martyred and passed away in the blessed city of Madinah Sharif.
Hadrat Maulana Yunus Patel Sahib Rahimahullah was renowned for his lengthy duas. Hadrat Maulana used to ask for death in Madinah Munawwarah and burial in Jannatul Baqee, so that, “when the winds of Maghfirah (forgiveness) would blow, we, too, will be forgiven,”. A person once commented to Hadrat Maulana on his beautiful Dua, that he too, wishes to pass away in Madinah Sharif. It so happened that both Maulana and this person found themselves in Madinah Sharif at the same time. Maulana suggested to the person that he will make Dua to Allah Ta’ala to grant them death now in Madinah Sharif and he should say Ameen. The person responded that he had some work and perhaps next time he finds himself there he will make Dua. This teaches us that a person should be sincere in his intention when requesting death in Madinah Sharif.
Maulana Khalil Ahmad Saheb Saharanpuri Rahimahullah is buried right at the feet of the Ahlul Bayt. Hadrat Maulana would hold onto the Multazam and make Dua to Allah Ta’ala. There is a misconception that the Multazam is the door of the Ka’bah. The Multazam is actually situated between the Hajre Aswad and the door of the Ka’bah. Any person who attaches himself to the Multazam and makes Duaa, then his Dua is generally accepted. It is important to note that one shouldn’t cause harm to others in trying to reach the Multazam. One cannot perpetrate a Haraam just to fulfil a Nafl. Also, a person who is in Ihraam should avoid touching the Multazam as Itr is applied to Ka’bah Sharif and this will result in a Damm (penalty) having to be paid, depending on how much itr came onto a person.
A Buzurgh mentioned, if a person wishes to reach the Multazam, then he should stand near the Multazam and recite the third Kalimah and he will notice, gradually one by one, people will move aside, allowing the person to pass through. Many have tried this and were able to easily reach the Multazam.
Hadrat Sheikh Rahimahullah also expressed his Dua to pass away in Madinah and it was granted. So, any person who is sincere in his desire, Allah Ta’ala will grant it to him Insha’Allah.
Maulana Badre Aalam Saheb Rahmatullahi Alaih was a great scholar of Hadith Sharif. He was the Ustaadh of Molana Qasim Sema Sahib of Darul Uloom Newcastle. Maulana Qasim Sahib was the first person to teach Bukhaari Sharif in South Africa. Once Hadrat Maulana Badre Aalam Sahib commented that Allah Ta’ala has blessed him with the ability to acquire millions, and if he wanted, he could conduct business in Madinah Sharif, ùand become a millionaire. However, he stated that he needs the kindness of Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam. His only desire is to pass away in Madinah Sharif. Due to Maulana’s Ikhlaas, Allah Ta’ala granted it to him.
We should bear in mind that it is not a person’s wealth that brings him to Madinah Sharif but rather, it is the Fadhl of Allah Ta’ala. Even a poor person, if Allah Ta’ala honors him, will visit Madinah Sharif through Allah’s Kindness. And if a person finds himself in Madinah Sharif, he should make the best of the opportunity and he should never cause any inconvenience to the people of Madinah Sharif.
There are numerous incidents mentioned of people who caused inconvenience to those in Madinah Munawwarah, thus, Allah Ta’ala removed them from Madinah Sharif. Haji Ahmed Nakhooda Sahib Rahimahullah mentions the incident of a poor person from Pakistan who wished to reside in Madinah Sharif. One day, in Masjidun Nabawi, he heard a voice addressing him that his work was done. As he exited the Masjid, he found an Arab man waiting for him who, thereafter, offered him a place to stay, including meals. Sadly, after staying there for some time, he became complacent and started criticizing the inhabitants of Madinah Sharif. One day, again after Asr, he heard the voice telling him to leave Madinah Sharif. When he exited the Masjid, he found the same Arab man who accommodated him, was now chasing him out of Madinah. He left Madinah Sharif and returned to Pakistan. On his return to Pakistan, his family rejected him as well.
The Mubaarak sand of Madinah Sharif is so beautiful, that we should take this sand and rub it on ourselves.
Haji Sahib mentioned about the beautiful cats of Madinah Sharif. A person wanted to take a cat back to Pakistan from Madinah Sharif. Somehow, he managed to take one back. At night he had a dream that the cat was in the Raudah Mubaarak complaining to Nabi Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam that the man had removed it from Madinah Sharif. The next day, the person booked a flight and returned the cat to Madinah Sharif.
When Hadrat Maulana Badre Aalam Sahib visited Madinah Sharif, it would upset him to see the people reciting Salaat and Salaam loudly. The Buzurghs and the pious, out of their humility and respect for Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam, would stand at the rear of Masjid-un-Nabawi and send durood. Today, the condition is dire, where people standing in front if Raudah Mubaarak, are taking pictures and musical ringtones play from their phones. Maulana Badre Aalam Sahib had a dream one night where he was lamenting to Nabi Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam on the unbecoming manner of the people who were sending durood. Nabi Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam excused them saying, it was out of ignorance that they did this, and it was a show of their love for Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam. Maulana Badre AalamSahib says that after this, he never stopped anyone from sending durood in the manner they chose.
It is mentioned in a narration of Nabi Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam that if a person goes through the slightest difficulty in Madinah, yet he remains content and happy, Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam pledged to intercede and be a witness for him on the Day of Qiyaamah. So it is now in these months of Hajj, that we should draw closer to Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam and make Dua for death in Madinah Sharif. May Allah Ta’ala grant us the Taufeeq, Aameen!
