Reward for Practicing on the Quraan and Sunnah and Holding Firmly to Them
The common ccomplaint that we hear nowadays is, that we do not know who to follow any longer due to the differences in the Ummah. On the one hand, there are so many misguided and deviated sects such as the Shias, Qadianis, Salafis, etc. whilst on the other hand, there is so much of confusion as to who is worthy of being followed and who is not. The solution lies in following the Kitaab of Allah and the Sunnah of Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam.
Allah Ta’ala mentions in the Quraan Sharif:
“The only reply of the Believers when they are summoned towards Allah Ta’ala and His Messenger Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam in order to judge between them is to say, ‘We have heard and we have obeyed.’ It is such people who shall truly prosper. Whoever obeys Allah Ta’ala and His Messenger Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam, and remains fearful of Allah and remains conscious of Him, it is they who shall triumph.” [Surah Nur, Verses 51-52]
Abu Shurayh al-Khuzaa’i Radiallahu Anhu narrates that Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam came out to us and said, “Don’t you testify that there is none worthy of worship and that I am the Messenger of Allah?” They replied, “Indeed!” Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam said, “One side of the Quraan is in the Hands of Allah Ta’ala and the other side is in your hands. You should therefore hold firmly to it. If you do so, you will never go astray and you will never ever be destroyed after holding onto it.” [Tabrani]
Hadrat Irbad ibn Sariyah Radiallahu Anhu narrates that Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam admonished us in such a way that the hearts trembled and the eyes shed tears because of it. So, we said, “O Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam! This is like the admonition of a person who is bidding farewell, thus advise us.” Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam said, “I advise you to fear Allah, and to listen and obey even if a slave were to rule over you. Surely, he who lives (for long) from among you shall see many differences. You should therefore hold onto my Sunnah and the Sunnah of the rightly guided Khulafaa after me. Hold on firmly to them with your teeth (molars.) Beware of introducing new matters (in Islam), for surely every innovation is deviation.” [Sunan Abu Dawud]
Kathir ibn Abdullah ibn Amr ibn Auf narrates from his father, who narrates from his grandfather, that Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam said to Bilal Bin Harith Radiallahu Anhu: “You should know, O Bilal!” He asked: “What should I know, O Messenger of Allah?” Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam said: “You should know that whoever revives a dead Sunnah of mine shall receive the reward of all those who practice on it, without their reward being decreased in the least. And whoever innovates a deviated practice which Allah and His Messenger do not approve of, shall receive the sin of all those who practice on it, without their sins being decreased in the least.” [Ibn Majah]
In conclusion, the solution to the current day challenges was provided more than 1400 years ago. Simply hold onto the teachings of the Quraan Sharif and the Sunnah and we will be rightly guided through the kindness of Allah Ta’ala. The Quraan also teaches us, “Ask the people of knowledge if you do not know”, therefore, acquire the correct knowledge of the Quraan and Sunnah from the true Ulama, and hold onto both these saviors.
