Ambiya alive in their graves
Question:-
Are the Ambiya Alaihimus Salaam alive in their grave, and can their hear our Salaam when we visit their graves?
Answer:-
The Ambiya are alive in their graves. However, their life in the grave is not like our worldly life, as they do not require food, drink, etc. nor are they burdened with the compulsion of Salaah, fasting, etc. They are like the angels, in the sense that, they are not in need of food and drink. The martyrs are also alive in their graves, but the lives of the Ambiya Alaihimus Salaam are stronger in the grave, and the effect of their life is more apparent in the world. Hence, it was impermissible to marry any of the wives of Rasulullah Salallahu Alahi Wasallam after his demise, and the laws of inheritance are not applicable to his wealth.
Regarding the deceased being able to hear the living, the majority of the Hanafis hold the view that the deceased are unable to hear the living. However, it is recorded in a narration of Baihaqi Sharif that, any person who stands at the Rowdah and presents Salaam to Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam, then Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam listens to the Durood being presented to him. This proves that Rasulullah hears our Salaam when its presented to him.

وَعَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «مَنْ صَلَّى عَلَيَّ عِنْدَ قَبْرِي سَمِعْتُهُ وَمَنْ صَلَّى عَلَيَّ نَائِيًا أُبْلِغْتُهُ» . رَوَاهُ الْبَيْهَقِيُّ فِي شعب الْإِيمَان
عن اوس بن اوس قال: قال رسول الله صلي الله عليه وسلم: ان من أفضل ايامكم يوم الجمعة فيه خلق ادم، وفيه قبض، وفيه النفحة، وفيه الصعقة، فأكثروا على من الصلاة فيه، فان صلاتكم معروضة علي، قال: قالوا: يا رسول الله! وكيف تعرض صلاتنا عليك، وقد ارمت؟ قال: يقولون بليت فقال: ان الله عز وجل حرم على الأرض أجساد الأنبياء (سنن ابي داود ج١ ص١٥٧)
(ان الله عز وجل حرم على الأرض أجساد الأنبياء) أي: من ان تأكلها، فان الأنبياء في قبورهم احياء …….مع استغناءهم عن الطعام والشراب كالملائكة (عون المعبود ج٣ ص٢٧٥)
ان حياته صلي الله عليه وسلم في القبر لا يعقبها موت بل يستمر حيا، والأنبياء احياء في قبورهم (فتح الباري ج٧ص٣٦)
