Attending lectures of the Shias

Feb 7, 2023 | Aqeedah

Question:-

The Shias are having a programme in Tanzania regarding the upbringing of children. Should we, as followers of the Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jamaa’ah, attend their programme? Some brothers state that we should attend to understand their discussions and their tactics. They also state that we attend the discourses of other faiths, so why not this programme?

Answer:-

We should not attend the lectures of the Shias at all. Their lectures are filled with poison, and if a person is not well acquainted with the relevant knowledge of Deen, then he could easily be influenced by their discourses and, consequently, lose his Imaan. Even the Ulama (who possess knowledge of Deen) should not attend any of these lectures as it will definitely have a negative impact on them as well. Yes, they will have lectures under the banner of ‘upbringing of children’ etc. so we think that these are important topics that are applicable to all, but they certainly have their agendas hidden behind the scenes, and that is to invite people towards Shi’sm. Hence, we should not be deceived by them.

The Fatwa of Hadrat Ali Radiallahu Anhu is as follows, “If I were to assess the Shias, they will prove to be people who merely make verbal claims and fabricate. If I were to test them, they will all turn out to be apostates (Murtads).” [Re:- Ahsanul Fataawa Pg.84 Vol.1]

Imaam Maalik Rahimahullah states under the verse:

ليغيظ بهم الكفار

So that He may enrage the disbelievers by them

This is the Quranic proof of the Kufr of the Shias, i.e. they burn within themselves when they see the Sahaabah. This is why they are Kaafirs. [Re:- Roohul Ma’aani – Juz 26]

Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jilani Rahimahullah states:

All of the Shia groups believe that the appointment of the Imaam takes place under the clear order of Allah Ta’ala, that they are Masum. Hadrat Ali Radiallahu Anhu is superior to all the Sahaabah; apart from a few Sahaabah, the rest turned apostates after the death of Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam because they do not accept Ali Radiallahu Anhu as the Imaam. [Re:- Ghunyatut Taalibeen Pg.156 – 162]

The author of Fataawa Bazzaziyyah states, “The one who rejects the Khilaafah of Abu Bakr and Umar Radiallahu Anhuma is a Kaafir.” It is obligatory to label as Kaafir anyone who considers Uthman, Ali, Talhah, Zubayr and Aisha Radiallahu Anhum to be Kaafirs. [Re:- Fataawa Bazzaaziyyah Pg.318 Vol.3]

The Fatwa of Mullah Ali Qari Rahimahullah is, “The one who rejects the Khilaafah of Abu Bakr and Umar Radiallahu Anhuma is a Kaafir because there was Ijma (consensus) of the Sahaabah on the Khilaafah of these two.” [Sharhu Fiqhil Akbar Pg.198]

In conclusion, we, as Muslims, should not be attending any programmes and lectures of the Shia, as a majority of them are out of the fold of Islam. We should not propagate their literature at all, nor should we propagate their programme poster. As Muslims, we should not attend the discourses of people of other religions as well as Islam is the only true religion. May Allah Ta’ala protect us from all their plots against the Ummah Ameen!
