Trimming the nails

Question:-

With regard to trimming the nails, I’d like to enquire:
1.The method of trimming the nails
2.Is there a particular day to cut the nails
3. Is there any virtue if it’s done on a Thursday night /Friday?

Answer:-

1. There isn’t a particular method prescribed for clipping the nails. It is, therefore, incorrect to regard a particular method of cutting the nails as Sunnat which one is required to strictly adhere to.

However, Imaam Nawawi Rahimahullah has explained in the commentary of Muslim Sharif that, one should commence clipping the nails with the index finger of the right hand, then the middle finger, followed by the ring finger and then the baby finger and finally the thumb. Then commence with the baby finger of the left hand, then the ring finger, followed by the middle finger, then the index finger and finally concluding with the thumb. There are also other methods prescribed by other Ulama.

2. Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam used to clip his nails either on Thursday ,or Friday. [Re:- Tirmidhi]

3. One will attain the reward of practicing on the Sunnah
