Question:-
It is of great concern to note that Ashraful Aid will soon be hosting a Canadian character named Azzam Abu Rayash. Please note, as per my recent communication with Moulana Suhail, the following needs to be brought to your attention:
The “Maqasid institute” this Canadian “suit and tie” Shaykh is affiliated to, has pro-interfaith/pro-west secularists Ebrahim Rasool and Jasser Auda on their board. Being a member of this institute, Azzam Abu Rayash also supports Maqasid’s objectives. They are clear in their support of interfaith dialogue, “Many who are familiar or are scholars of Islam, approach the study of the Quran and Sunnah from narrow disciplinary lenses that are not conducive to holistic understandings, or reflective of the connectivity that binds all creation in webs of interdependence. This has serious implications for the flourishing of humanity and the welfare of our planet.”
It is understood that they promote their corrupt ideology globally, “our senior scholars and researchers apply the Maqasid methodology to critical challenges and phenomena impacting all of our lives and the welfare of the planet.” And, “The global promotion of Maqasid Institute’s research and the further development and practical application of ideas based on Maqasid Methodology and similar thinking, require support from individuals and organizations with diverse interests.”
With this in mind, we need to understand that:
These characters are not here for fundraising…they are here to promote ideology.
They have huge western and modern, secular salafi financial backing to promote their sinister agendas.
These shaykhs and shaykhas are part of a bigger, more structured plot – to undermine true Islam globally.
It is one big global cartel of Muslim-named characters – all with the same agenda: to water down true Islam.
All these shaykhs and shaykhas form part of a global “Imam” network trying to promote a one-world, liberal view on Islam. An Islam which fits in with the Abrahamic Accord.
Basically, the objective of these shaykhs is, ultimately, to be part of a global Imaam nework – a selected handful of imams from various countries, all presenting the same corrupted version of Islam across the world.
Your organisation (Ashraful Aid) is being used and will be providing this deviated institute with a foothold in South Africa.

Already, a response has been received from Mufti AK Saheb. If Ashraful Aid continues with Sunday’s program, and allows this Azzam Abu Rayash character a platform to spread his poison, it will no longer be permissible for the public to contribute to any of your organisation’s projects. We are awaiting responses from the other Ulama and Ifta bodies mentioned above. Be assured that their responses will be the same as Mufti AK Saheb’s.

- In view of the information attached, is it permissible for South African Muslims to listen to or attend any talk given by this Canadian “suit and tie” shaykh?
- Is it permissible for any organisation to promote or host him by giving him a public platform to spit his secular poison under the guise of fundraising and Al Aqsa awareness?
- Would it be permissible for the public to continue donating to the above-mentioned aid organisation (Ashraful Aid) if they persist in hosting this modernist misfit and allowing him the opportunity to spread misguidance in South Africa?
Answer:-
1. Based on the information provided, the Muslims of South Africa should not attend any of the talks presented by the Canadian Shaikh Azzam Abu Rayash. Allah Ta’ala has blessed us with a number of righteous and pious Ulama in South Africa who strictly adhere to the Shariah and follow the blessed Sunnah of Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam in all matters. These are the Ulama that are worthy of being followed in matters of Deen.
2. No organization in the country should host these personalities who promote the Abrahamic Accord, and promote a liberal and watered-down version of Islam, whilst differing with the Ahlus Sunnah Wal-Jamaa’ah in matters of Aqeedah. We shouldn’t be deceived with the titles of their programmes (under the guise of promoting Aqsa and fundraising) whereas, in reality, they intend promoting their corrupt ideologies and beliefs.
3. If the aforementioned aid organization continues with the programme and invites such dubious characters in the future to host programmes in South Africa who will oppose the teachings of the senior Ulama of our country and spread their corrupt beliefs, then the Muslims of South Africa should not support the said institute. It is extremely sad to note that the Ulama serving at the organization have not taken any objection against the programme.
