Question:-
Are we allowed to tie black bead bracelets onto the baby’s’ wrist to prevent the child from the evil eye or is it just a myth?
If it is a myth, can the beads be worn after reciting Ruqya and blowing on the beads?
Answer:-
The eye is a reality as mentioned in the Mubarak Hadith, meaning that if one looks at another with an evil gaze then his health, wealth, children, etc. may be adversely affected. The purpose of making children wear a black bracelet or putting a black dot on the child’s face is to protect the child from the evil eye. The practice of placing a dot on the child’s face is established from Hadrat Uthmaan Radiallahu Anhu.
If tying a beaded bracelet (to the child) is a practice of the non-Muslims, then it will not be permissible. Therefore, we advise you to recite Aayaat of protection such as Muawwazatain, Manzil and any other Duas established from Quraan and Sunnah and blow on the child. These will prove more effective and is directly from Allah and His Rasul Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam.
عن أبي هريرة رضي الله عنه عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم قال العين حق ونهى عن الوشم (صحيح البخاري #5740)
وروي أن عثمان رأى صبيا مليحا فقال دسموا نونته كيلا تصيبه العين ومعنى دسموا أي سودوا والنونة الثقبة التي تكون في ذقن الصبي الصغير (تفسير القرطبي 11/329)
قوله التميمة المكروهة أقول الذي رأيته في المجتبى التميمة المكروهة ما كان بغير القرآن وقيل هي الخرزة التي تعلقها الجاهلية اه. فلتراجع نسخة أخرى، وفي المغرب وبعضهم يتوهم أن المعاذات هي التمائم وليس كذلك إنما التميمة الخرزة ولا بأس بالمعاذات إذا كتب فيها القرآن أو أسماء الله تعالى ويقال رقاه الراقي رقيا ورقية إذا عوذه ونفث في عوذته. قالوا وإنما تكره العوذة إذا كانت لغير لسان العرب ولا يدري ما هو ولعله يدخله سحر أو كفر أو غير ذلك وأما ما كان من القرآن أو شيء من الدعوات فلا بأس به (الدر المختار و حاشية ابن عابدين 6/ 363)
