Bara Tasbeeh

QUESTION:

Where does the Bara Tasbeeh originate and what is the Shari’ee stance regarding it?

ANSWER:

Yes one is permitted to make the Bara Tasbeeh which he learns from his spiritual guide(Sheikh). Bara Tasbeeh is the famous 13 Tasbeehaat prescribed by the Chistiyyah Mashaaikh, with a specific head movement which is aimed to achieve Tazkiyyah. These means are tried, tested and proven to be beneficial in obtaining Tazkiyyah. However, one should note that it is not established from any Aayaat of the Quraan Shareef nor any Ahaadith.  Rather, it is a tried and tested method of our Akaabireen and seniors as a prescription to strengthen the heart to fight against Shaytaan and the Nafs.  (Re:Fatawaa Mahmoodiya Vol:4 Pg:436, Fatawaa Darululoom Zakariyya Vol:1 Pg:558)
