Beardless youth leading the Salaah
Question:-
Can an Imaam lead the congregational Salaah if his beard naturally doesn’t grow?
Answer:-
We will discuss the term ‘Amrad’ in the context of Imaamat, as the question pertains to Imaamat of an ‘Amrad.’ An ‘Amrad’ whose Imaamat is abhorred, refers to one with an attractive appearance who has already reached the age of Buloogh (puberty) but a beard hasn’t yet appeared on his face, and is consequently a means of Fitna.
وَالظَّاهِرُ أَيْضًا كَمَا قَالَ الرَّحْمَتِيُّ أَنَّ الْمُرَادَ بِهِ الصَّبِيحُ الْوَجْهِ لِأَنَّهُ مَحَلُّ الْفِتْنَةِ (در مختار ص۵۶۲ ج۱)
The age of the ‘Amrad’ is not considered. Once a boy reaches the age of puberty, he is worthy of Imaamat irrespective of whether he has a beard or not. The same ruling applies to those individuals whose beards naturally do not grow.
فالذكر البالغ تصح امامته للكل—الخ (در مختار ص۵۷۷ ج۱)
اگر عمر کے لحاظ سے بالغ ہے اور ابھی ڈارھی نہیں نکلی ؛ اس کی امامت صحیح ہے اسی طرح جس شخص کی قدرتی داڑھی نہ ہو ، اس کی امامت بھی صحیح ہے (آپ کے مسائل اور ان کا حل ص۴۳۶ ج۳)
The matter of concern is whether the ‘Amrad’ is a means of Fitna or not. If he is a means of Fitna (whereby he is attracting the attention of others and people are casting lustful glances at him) then his Imaamat is Makrooh-e-Tanzeehi, otherwise, not. We are living in an era of vice and evil where people are spiritually ill; an era where even the Masajid, Madrasahs, and all other Deeni venues and works are not protected from Fitna, hence our advice would be not to allow young, beardless lads (that could possibly be a means of Fitnah) to lead the Salaah.
وَكَذَا تُكْرَهُ خَلْفَ أَمْرَدَ الظَّاهِرُ أَنَّهَا تَنْزِيهِيَّةٌ أَيْضًا (در مختار ص۵۶۲ ج۱)
بعض ممالک میں نفس پرست ایسے ہوتے ہیں جو لڑکیوں اور عورتوں جیسے لگنے والے لڑکوں اور جوانوں (جو چاہے بالغ بھی ہو ں) کی طرف شہوت کی نگاہ دیکھتے ہیں ایس حالت میں اور ایسی بستیوں میں ایسے جوانوں کے پیچھے نماز پڑھنا بعض علماء کے نزدیک مکروہ تنزیہی ہے۔۔۔(فتاوی بسم اللہ ص۵۱ ج۵)
