Calculating Safr distance

QUESTION:-

In modern times when cities have become larger, from which point to which point will the distance of travelling be considered?

For example, Zaid is staying in town A and wants to travel to town B to his friend’s house. The distance from Zaid’s house to town A boundary is 20km, and the distance from town A boundary to town B boundary is 60km. The distance from town B boundary to his friend’s house is 10km. Will Zaid be a Musaafir or not if he travels the total of 90km, whereas if u count the distance between boundaries only, it totals 60km?

ANSWER:-

In the queried scenario, Zaid will not be Musaafir because the distance between the two boundaries is only 60 kilometres. The distance from boundary to boundary will be calculated.

الصَّحِيحُ مَا ذُكِرَ أَنَّهُ يُعْتَبَرُ مُجَاوَزَةُ عُمْرَانِ الْمِصْرِ لَا غَيْرُ إلَّا إذَا كَانَ ثَمَّةَ قَرْيَةٌ أَوْ قُرًى مُتَّصِلَةٌ بِرَبَضِ الْمِصْرِ فَحِينَئِذٍ تُعْتَبَرُ مُجَاوَزَةُ الْقُرَى (الفتاوي الهندية ص139 ج1)

محلہ سے نہیں بلکہ آبادی سے خارج ہونے پر مسافر شمار ہوگا (فتاوی محمودیہ ص۶۲۶ ج۱۱)
