Safr

QUESTION:

I left my home to go to Madrasah (+- 43km) without the Niyyah of Safr. After reaching Madrasah, the need arose to travel further. Will I become a Musaafir once I pass the Safr distance from home, or do I need to make Niyyah and calculate the Safr distance from Madrasah?

ANSWER:

Since you had intended your Madrasah when leaving home (which is 43 kilometres away), your Safr terminates at your Madrasah. Now, if you intend travelling further after reaching Madrasah, then you will have to make an intention of travelling Safr distance from Madrasah (which is 77 kilometres or more) to qualify as a Musaafir.

Yes, if you intended travelling 77 kilometres or more when leaving home and Madrasah was just a stop on the way, then you will be regarded as a Musaafir the moment you pass the boundary of your locality.
