Choosing a suitable partner for marriage

Oct 23, 2022 | Nikaah

Question:-

I have four daughters and a son. The two elder daughters are ready for marriage. Previously, the eldest daughter received a number of  proposals but either she was not happy, or on other occasions, the boy was not happy. This is really stressing me out. My eldest daughter is a Haafizah and prefers marrying a Hafiz-ul-Quraan. Please advise as she needs to get married and things are just not working out. Please make Dua as well as this is a big worry for us as parents.

Answer:-

It is our Dua that Allah Ta’ala sends the best of proposals for your daughters and Allah Ta’ala grants them every form of happiness. Ameen! Recitation of Surah Dahr has proven beneficial for receiving good proposals and so this Surah should be recited regularly.

It is not necessary for the candidate to be a Hafiz of the Quraan Sharif or an Alim of Deen even though your daughter is a Haafizah and would like to be married to a Hafiz-ul-Quraan. The criteria should be Deen. If the boy has Deen in his life, then he will fulfil the rights of his wife as he will fear accountability in the court of Allah Ta’ala. On the contrary, if he is an Alim or Hafiz but void of Deen, then his knowledge will not prevent him from violating the laws of Shariah. It is for this reason that the verses of Taqwa are recited in the Khutbah of Nikah as a man of Taqwa will try to fulfil the rights of his wife to the best of his ability.

The Hadith Sharif states, “If a person with whose Deen and character you are pleased proposes to you (O Guardians!), then get him married (to your females), for if you do not do so, then corruption will become widespread in the earth.”

In conclusion, Deen and good character should be the criteria for choosing a good candidate for your daughters.

ALLAH TA’ALA KNOWS BEST!
