Question:-
Is it permissible for the oppressed to curse the oppressor?
Answer:-
We should take lesson from the life of Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam. In spite of being oppressed by the Kuffar of Makkah, he never cursed the Kuffar in personal matters. In fact he would make Dua saying, “O Allah, Forgive my nation for verily they do not know.”
On one particular occasion, the Jews greeted Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam by saying, “Assamu-Alaikum”, which means, “May death be upon you.” This angered Aisha Radiallahu Anha and she responded by saying, “May death and curses be upon you.” Rasulullah said, “Go easy, O Aisha! Verily Allah Ta’ala loves softness in all matters.” She said, “O Rasul of Allah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam, did you not hear what they said?” Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam said, “I replied by saying, and may death be upon you as well.” We should therefore avoid cursing, rather we should make Dua for their guidance.
Having the heart to overlook and forgive the oppressor is indeed a meritorious deed, in lieu of which, we have hope of securing the forgiveness of Allah Ta’ala on the day of Qiyaamah. Every individual will be desperate for His forgiveness on that day, hence, we too, should learn to forgive others for their shortcomings in the world. At the same, we should make Dua for the Hidayat of the oppressor.
