Dental treatment whilst fasting
Question:-
I am pregnant at the moment in my second trimester, and need dental work done as I have tooth pain. I originally had an appointment booked earlier in my pregnancy, but was told it was too risky in the first trimester and had two appointments rebooked for during my second trimester, which I have come to realise both are booked during Ramadan. During this time waiting for my appointment I have had continuous tooth pain.
Does dental work break my fast? Is unintentional swallowing during dental procedures considered as nullifying one’s fast or is it okay as there is no intention to swallow?
Am I able to continue fasting during the days I have appointments booked, or should I not fast those days, and make them up at the end of Ramadan?
Answer:-
In principle, it is permissible to undergo dental treatment whilst fasting. However, it is not advisable to do so due to the possibility of water, medication or blood entering the throat which will invalidate the fast.
If the dental treatment can be delayed until after Ramadaan then it should be delayed. However, if the pain is unbearable then the procedure may be carried out during the month of Ramadaan and the Qadha may be kept at a later stage.
أو خـرج الـدم مـن بـيـن أسـنانه ودخل حلقه يعنى ولم يصل الى جوفه أما اذا وصل فان غـلـب الـدم أوتساويا فسدوالالا…وفي الشامية من قلع ضرسه في رمضان ودخل الدم الـى جـوفـه في النهار ولونائمافيجب عليه القضاء الا أن يفرق بعدم امكان التحرز عنه فيكون كالقني الذي عادبنفسه( الدر المختار و حاشية ابن عابدين 2/396)
دانت نکالتے وقت نکلنے والے خون کے روزہ پراثرات والے کیا فرماتے ہیں مفتیان کرام اس مسئلہ کے بارے میں کہ تکلیف کی وجہ سے روزہ دار کیلئے دانت نکلوانا شرعاً جائز ہے یا نہیں؟ اور اگر دانت نکالتے وقت یا بعد میں خون آۓ تو اس سے روزہ فاسد ہو جا تا ہے یا نہیں؟
جواب : روزہ کی حالت میں دانت نکلوانا کوئی منع نہیں ہے اور خون نکلنے سے روزہ پر کوئی اثر نہیں پڑتا،البتہ خون نگل جاۓ یا دانت سن کر نے کے لیے انجکشن کی دواء یا کوئی اور چیز نگل جاۓ تو روزہ ٹوٹ جاتا ہے اور غالب یہی ہے کہ دانت نکلوانے کی صورت میں خون وغیرہ نگلا ہی جاتا ہے، اس لئے روزہ کی حالت میں دانت نکلوانے سے منع کیا جا تا ہے بہت مجبوری ہوتو نکلوا کر بعد میں کم از کم ایک روزہ کی قضاء کرے۔(فتاوی عباد الرحمان 6/253)
