Distribution Of Meat After Taking A Vow

QUESTION:

I made Niyyah to slaughter an animal when my father recovers from his illness. I intended to distribute its meat to the needy, some to family and some for ourselves. Is this valid, or must the entire animal be given away to the poor?

ANSWER:

The entire animal has to be given to the poor. You cannot consume from the meat of animal. However, if one’s relatives are poor, one may give it one’s poor relatives as well.

 نذر ذبح شاة لا يأكل منها الناذر ولو أكل فعليه قيمة ما أكل (المحيط البرهاني 6/88)

وإن وجبت به فلايأكل منها شيئا ولايطعم غنيا سواء كان الناذر غنيا أو فقيرا ولو أكل فعليه قيمة ما أكل (رد المحتار 6/327)
