Doubts Regarding Tahaarah

QUESTION:

I suffer from OCD so after showering, I wipe my posterior with a tissue before wearing my undergarments and clothes. Due to my condition, at times I feel some wetness and begin having doubts as to whether this is caused by sweat or discharge. Do I need to check everytime I get this feeling?

ANSWER:

It seems from your query that you are suffering from doubts. It should be borne in mind that the objective of Shaytaan is to avert you from the remembrance of Allah Ta’ala and one way of achieving this, is by creating these doubts and suspicions in one’s mind.

The simple solution is to totally ignore these Wasaawis (doubts) created by Shaytaan. The more you will entertain these doubts, the more Shaytaan will try to distract you.

Furthermore, it is imperative to understand that the various Ahkaam (regulations) of Deen are not based on mere “feelings”. It is based on certainty. Hence, you should not pay attention to any of these thoughts.

الْيَقِين لُغَة: الْعلم الَّذِي لَا تردد مَعَه، وَهُوَ فِي أصل اللُّغَة: الِاسْتِقْرَار، يُقَال: يقن المَاء فِي الْحَوْض إِذا اسْتَقر. (ر: تعريفات السَّيِّد) . وَلَا يشْتَرط فِي تحقق الْيَقِين الِاعْتِرَاف والتصديق بل يتَصَوَّر مَعَ الْجُحُود، كَمَا قَالَ تَعَالَى: {وجحدوا بهَا واستيقنتها أنفسهم} .

وَالْيَقِين فِي اصْطِلَاح عُلَمَاء الْمَعْقُول هُوَ: الِاعْتِقَاد الْجَازِم المطابق للْوَاقِع الثَّابِت. فَخرج بالقيد الأول، أَعنِي الْجَازِم، الظَّن وَغَلَبَة الظَّن، لِأَنَّهُ لَا جزم فيهمَا، وَخرج بالقيد الثَّانِي مَا لَيْسَ مطابقاً للْوَاقِع وَهُوَ الْجَهْل وَإِن كَانَ صَاحبه جَازِمًا. وَخرج بالقيد الثَّالِث اعْتِقَاد الْمُقَلّد فِيمَا كَانَ صَوَابا، لِأَن اعْتِقَاده لما لم يكن عَن دَلِيل كَانَ عرضة للزوال. فَكل ذَلِك لَيْسَ من الْيَقِين فِي شَيْء.

لَكِن الْمُنَاسب هُنَا تَفْسِير الْيَقِين بِالْمَعْنَى الأول اللّغَوِيّ، لِأَن الْأَحْكَام الْفِقْهِيَّة إِنَّمَا تبنى على الظَّاهِر، فكثيراً مَا يكون الْأَمر فِي نظر الشَّرْع يَقِينا لَا يَزُول بِالشَّكِّ فِي حِين أَن الْعقل يُجِيز أَن يكون الْوَاقِع خِلَافه، وَذَلِكَ كالأمر الثَّابِت بِالْبَيِّنَةِ الشَّرْعِيَّة فَإِنَّهُ فِي نظر الشَّرْع يَقِين كَالثَّابِتِ بالعيان، مَعَ أَن شَهَادَة الشُّهُود لَا تخرج عَن كَونهَا خبر آحَاد يُجِيز الْعقل فِيهَا السَّهْو وَالْكذب، وَهَذَا الِاحْتِمَال الضَّعِيف لَا يخرج ذَلِك عَن كَونه يَقِينا لِأَنَّهُ لقُوَّة ضعفه قد طرح أَمَام قُوَّة مُقَابِله وَلم يبْق لَهُ اعْتِبَار فِي نظر النَّاظر (شرح القواعد الفقهية 79 ج1)

In conclusion, we advise you to make Dua to Allah Ta’ala to assist you in overcoming the whispers of Shaytaan and recite the following Dua in abundance:

رَّبِّ أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ هَمَزَاتِ الشَّيَاطِين ِ )المؤمنون آ 97)

 ‘My Lord, I seek refuge in You from the incitements of the Shayaateen.’
